Wang Yi Holds Telephone Talks with Secretary of State John Kerry of US

On January 5, 2017, Foreign Minister Wang Yi held telephone talks at request with Secretary of State John Kerry of the US.

John Kerry said that in recent years, US-China relations have enjoyed comprehensive development and yielded fruitful outcomes. Both sides have maintained close cooperation in pushing forward global economic recovery, coping with climate change, resolving hotspot issues concerning international security and other fields. John Kerry stressed that US-China relations are of great importance. It is the common stance for the two parties of the US to uphold the one-China policy in accordance with the three US-China Joint Communiqués.

Wang Yi noted that China-US relations are at a crucial stage of inheriting the past and ushering in the future. Bilateral cooperation outcomes are made through hard efforts. The two countries should jointly and meticulously safeguard them and properly hold the correct development direction of bilateral relations.

Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional topics of common concern.
