Li Keqiang Meets with President of the Senate Stephen Parry and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tony Smith of the Federal Parliament of Australia

On the afternoon of March 23, 2017 local time, Premier Li Keqiang met at the Parliament House in Canberra with President of the Senate Stephen Parry and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tony Smith of the Federal Parliament of Australia.

Li Keqiang expressed that China-Australia relations have achieved substantial development and fruitful results from cooperation in various fields. This year marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between both countries, the Chinese side is willing to, together with the Australian side, enhance exchanges at all levels including government, local and non-governmental levels, and expand cooperation in various fields including economy, trade, people-to-people and cultural engagement as well as other fields, so as to open up a broader future for bilateral relations.

Li Keqiang pointed out that the exchanges between legislative institutions are an important channel to enhance bilateral mutual trust and cooperation. The Chinese side is ready to work with the Australian side to strengthen exchanges between legislative institutions, cement understanding and mutual trust, consolidate the public opinion foundation of bilateral relations, and provide inexhaustible impetus for bilateral cooperation.

Stephen Parry and Tony Smith spoke highly of the speech delivered by Premier Li Keqiang at the formal welcome luncheon held by Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull. Both the Senate and the House of Representatives of Australia attach importance to developing their relations and cooperation with China's legislative institution, and stand ready to further intensify bilateral contacts and exchanges, and play positive roles in promoting the sustained development of Australia-China relations, boosting cooperation in wide areas and deepening friendship between the two peoples.
