President Xi Jinping spoke with Indonesian President Joko Widodo on the phone on 2 April.

On behalf of the Chinese government and people, Xi expressed sincere sympathies to the Indonesian government and people as they battle the COVID-19 outbreak, like many other countries around the world. Xi said that through extraordinary efforts, the Chinese people have emerged from the most difficult time. We feel keenly for Indonesia and stand ready to provide support and assistance. "I am confident that under your leadership, Indonesia will ultimately defeat the outbreak," Xi said to President Joko Widodo.

Xi stressed that China and Indonesia have rendered each other support in the face of the outbreak, which is a testament to their profound friendship of solidarity and mutual assistance in times of adversity. This year marks the 70th anniversary of China-Indonesia diplomatic ties. China will work with Indonesia to deepen Belt and Road cooperation and advance the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.

Xi noted that the outbreak is a challenge facing all mankind and the international community must pull together to tackle it. China and Indonesia should engage in close cooperation and encourage the G20 and the international community to play their roles in crisis response and global economic governance. Guided by the vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind, China will share its experience on outbreak response with the rest of the world and offer support as best as it can. "Together with other countries, we will contribute to global public health and to a community of health for all," said Xi.

President Joko Widodo applauded President Xi's leadership and the important gains the Chinese people have made in outbreak response, saying that the rest of the world should learn from China's experience. He thanked China for providing supplies and valuable support, underscoring how important they are for Indonesia. The virus knows no borders and is a common enemy for all. Indonesia is firmly opposed to any attempt at stigmatization and will work with China to promote global solidarity and cooperation. "Indonesia looks forward to deeper cooperation and closer ties with China," he said.
