Xi Jinping Meets with Indonesian President Joko Widodo

On the afternoon of July 27, 2023, President Xi Jinping met in Chengdu with Indonesian President Joko Widodo who is in China to attend the opening ceremony of the 31st summer edition of the FISU World University Games and pay a visit to the country.

Xi Jinping pointed out that he and President Joko Widodo jointly opened a new chapter in building a China-Indonesia community with a shared future last year. On the path to national modernization and rejuvenation, China and Indonesia, sharing highly aligned visions and presenting opportunities for each other's development, are like-minded companions and good partners. Noting that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, Xi Jinping said that China is ready to take the occasion as an opportunity to deepen strategic cooperation with Indonesia, set a fine example of how developing countries can share a common future, pursue solidarity and cooperation and boost common development, and inject more certainty and positive energy into the region and the world.

Xi Jinping stressed that China is ready to maintain regular strategic communication with Indonesia, strengthen the exchanges of state governance experience, initiate the "2+2" dialogue mechanism for foreign and defense ministers of the two countries, and build high-level strategic mutual trust. Major achievements have been made in synergizing the Belt and Road Initiative with Indonesia's vision of the Global Maritime Fulcrum. With the Jakarta-Bandung High-speed Railway soon coming into operation, the two sides need to make all-out efforts to connect the "last mile" and ensure the high standard and high quality of the project, injecting more impetus into Indonesia's development. The two countries need to continue to further the cooperation on comprehensive industrial parks, with a focus on the development of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Corridor and the "Two Countries, Twin Parks". China supports Indonesia in developing its new capital and the North Kalimantan Industrial Park, and is ready to work with Indonesia to expand cooperation in areas including new energy vehicles and smart cities and jointly promote the industrial digital transformation. China is ready to continue to expand imports of bulk commodities and high-quality agricultural products from Indonesia, deliver on the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership with high quality, and strengthen cooperation in fields including food security, poverty reduction, rural revitalization, vocational education, language education, medicine and health, and culture and tourism.

Xi Jinping pointed out that this year marks the 10th anniversary of his proposal to build a closer China-ASEAN community with a shared future, and the 20th anniversary of China's accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia. China is ready to deepen its comprehensive strategic partnership with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and support Indonesia, this year's rotating chair of ASEAN, in leading ASEAN's efforts to uphold strategic autonomy, build strength through unity, and jointly build a center of regional stability and a hub for development. China stands ready to strengthen communication and coordination with Indonesia under the G20, BRICS and other multilateral mechanisms, promote the implementation of the Global Development Initiative (GDI), the Global Security Initiative (GSI) and the Global Civilization Initiative (GCI), safeguard regional and global peace and stability, and promote the building of a human community with a shared future.

Joko Widodo said that the bilateral relations have made substantial progress since he received President Xi Jinping in Bali last year. The Jakarta-Bandung High-speed Railway will be put into operation as scheduled in August this year. Smooth progress has been made in the developmentā€‚of the new Indonesian capital, the development of the North Kalimantan Industrial Park, and other strategic projects in which China has actively participated. Indonesia firmly upholds the one-China policy, and is ready to continue to enhance cooperation with China in areas including investment, marine fisheries, food security and healthcare, to further promote the development of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries. Noting that the GDI, the GSI and the GCI put forward by President Xi Jinping are open and inclusive, Joko Widodo said Indonesia actively supports the initiatives. Indonesia appreciates the fact that China supports the work of Indonesia as the rotating chairmanship of ASEAN and backs ASEAN centrality in the regional architecture. Indonesia is willing to strengthen its strategic communication with China and jointly safeguard regional peace, stability, development and prosperity.

After the meeting, the two heads of state jointly witnessed the signing of multiple bilateral cooperation documents on importing agricultural products from Indonesia, health, joint research and development, and the construction of the new Indonesian capital and "Two Countries, Twin Parks", among others.

Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang, Wang Yi, and Shen Yiqin, among others, were present at the above events.
