Notice on the Further Adjustment of Visa and Entry Policies for Foreigners to China

To further facilitate international exchanges, China has decided to make the following adjustments to the visa and entry policies for foreigners visiting China, effective on 15 March 2023 (Beijing time):

1. Visas of all categories issued by the Chinese side before 28 March 2020 and still within the validity period can be used for entry.

2. Chinese visa issuing agencies abroad resume processing visa applications of all categories, including tourist visa. Please read carefully the "Notice for Foreign Applicants of Chinese Visas" updated by the Chinese Embassy and Consulates General in Indonesia.

3. China's port visa authorities resume processing port visas applications of all categories for foreigners who meet the statutory requirements.

4. The policies of visa-free entry into Hainan, visa-free entry for cruise ship passengers into Shanghai, 144-hour visa-free entry for groups from Hong Kong and Macau into Guangdong, and visa-free entry for group travelers from ASEAN into Guilin, Guangxi will be reinstated.

Notice for Foreign Applicants of Chinese Visas 

1. Visa categories and Requirements

M

Issued to those who intend to go to China for commercial and trade activities

Documents on the commercial activity issued by a trade partner in China, trade fair invitation or other invitation letters issued by relevant entity

L

Issued to those who intend to go to China for travel

Travel plan materials such as round-trip air tickets and hotel orders, or invitation letters issued by organizations or individuals in China. The invitation must cover the following content:

(1) Personal information of the invitee: name, gender, date of birth, etc.;

(2) The itinerary of the invitee: arrival and departure dates, travel destinations, etc.;

(3) Information of the inviting organization or individual: name, phone number, address, seal of the organization, signature of the legal representative of the inviting organization or the inviting individual, etc.

Q1

Issued to those who are family members of Chinese citizens or of foreigners with Chinese permanent residence and intend to go to China for family reunion, or to those who intend to go to China for the purpose of foster care.

“Family members” refers to spouses, parents, sons, daughters, spouses of sons or daughters, brothers, sisters, grandparents, grandsons, granddaughters and parents-in-law.

(1) An invitation letter issued by a Chinese citizen or a foreign citizen with a Chinese permanent residence permit who lives in China.

(2) Photocopy of Chinese ID of the inviting individual or foreign passport and permanent residence permit.

(3) Certification showing the relationship of family members between applicant and inviting individual. (e.g. marriage certificate, birth certificate or notarized certification of kinship, etc.)

Q2

Issued to those who intend to visit their relatives who are Chinese citizens residing in China or foreigners with permanent residence in China. The intended duration of stay in China is no more than 180 days.

S1

Issued to those who intend to visit foreigners working or studying in China to whom they are spouses, parents, sons or daughters under the age of 18 or parents-in-law. The intended duration of stay in China exceeds 180 days.

(1) An invitation letter from the inviting individual (a foreigner who stays or resides in China for work or studies)

(2) A photocopy of the inviting individual’s passport and residence permit

(3)Certification showing the relationship of family members between applicants and inviting individual. (e.g. marriage certificate, birth certificate or notarized certification of kinship, etc.)

(4)Certificate of hospitalization or planned admission issued by a Chinese medical institution

S2

Issued to those who intend to visit foreigners working or studying in China to whom they are spouses, parents, sons, daughters, spouses of sons or daughters, brothers, sisters, grandparents, grandsons, granddaughters and parents-in-law. The intended duration of stay in China is no more than 180 days.

X1

Issued to those who intend to study in China for a period of more than 180 days.

(1) Original and photocopy of the Admission Letter issued by a school or other entities in China

(2) Original and photocopy of "Visa Application for Study in China" (Form JW201 or Form JW202).

X2

Issued to those who intend to study in China for a period of no more than 180 days.

Issued to those who intend to go to China for exchanges, visits, study tours and other activities.

An invitation letter issued by a relevant entity or individual in China

Issued to those who intend to transit through China.

An onward air ticket with confirmed date and seat to the destination country or region or a letter of guarantee issued by a foreign shipping company

C

Issued to foreign crew members of means of international transportation, including aircraft, and ships or to the accompanying family members of the crew members of the above-mentioned ships.

A letter of guarantee issued by a foreign transport company or an invitation letter issued by a relevant entity in China

J1

Issued to resident foreign journalists of foreign news organizations stationed in China. The intended duration of stay in China exceeds 180 days.

Visa Notification Letter issued by the Information Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China and an official letter issued by the media organization for which the journalist works.

J2

Issued to foreign journalists who intend to go to China for short-term news coverage. The intended duration of stay in China is no more than 180 days.

Visa Notification Letter issued by the Information Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China or other authorized units in China and an official letter issued by the media organization for which the journalist works.

R

Issued to those who are high-level talents or whose skills are urgently needed.

Documents issued by competent authorities of the Chinese government on accepting individuals who are high-level talents or whose skills are urgently needed.

D

Issued to those who intend to reside in China permanently.

The original and photocopy of the Confirmation Form for Foreigners Permanent Residence Status issued by the Ministry of Public Security of China.

For those who intend to visit China for humanitarian reasons such as visiting an immediate family member who is in critical medical condition, and arranging funeral matters of an immediate family member in China, please submit the identification of the family member (such as Chinese ID or foreign passport); death certificate or medical diagnosis, notice of critical condition; and certificate of kinship.

2. Application Procedure

(1) Please visit the website of Chinese Visa Application Service Center in Jakarta, Surabaya, Medan or Denpasar according to the consular districts of the Chinese Embassy and Consulates General in Indonesia: https://www.visaforchina.cn/globle/. All visa applicants are requested to completely and faithfully fill in the Chinese Visa Application Form and the confirmation page online and make an appointment for submitting the required documents with your application form number by following the instructions. Please bring all the required documents to the Visa Center at your appointment time for submission and have ten fingerprints collected on site.

* The following visa applicants can be exempt from fingerprint collection:

I. Persons under the age of 14 or over 70.

II. Persons who hold diplomatic passports or meet the requirements for issuance of Chinese diplomatic, official and courteous visas.

III. Persons who has been issued a visa at the same diplomatic or consular mission with the same passport and has been collected fingerprints within 5 years.

IV. Persons whose ten fingers are all missing or whose ten fingerprints cannot be collected.

Those who are exempt from fingerprint collection can entrust the visa application to other person for submission.

(2) The Visa Centers aforementioned accept visa applications from Indonesian citizens holding ordinary passports and citizens of a third country holding legal entry record of Indonesia ,such as visa, residence permit or visa-free treatment according to agreements.

(3) Applicants holding diplomatic, service or official passports within the consular district of the Chinese Embassy and Consulates General in Indonesia can submit visa application documents directly to nearby diplomatic or consular missions when applying diplomatic or service visa and can consult us by writing to the following email.
